Electric Slide a successPublished 7:08pm Friday, July 6, 2012
To the Editor:
You can learn alot about a community when a challenge is presented. You have the ones who jump in and meet the challenge with a positive attitude knowing that all things are possible. Then you have the ones who say it is a waste of time with the people of Washington. You know, the ones with negative attitudes. Granted, to break the world record was a high number, but it was from a city that has around 53,000 in Arizona, and took five months to plan. Washington has around 27,000, and we would need six months or more to plan. But if it wasn’t for ideas in life, where would we be?
It was a success in many ways. People danced the Electric Slide from all around the country while visiting our town. They were from Hawaii, South Dakota, Maryland, Texas, Mississippi, New Jersey, West Virginia, and one from Berlin, Germany. People from surrounding towns, Windsor, Plymouth, Tarboro, Greenville, Snow Hill, Fayetteville, Robersonville, Clayton, Oriental, Wilson, Black Creek, Bath, Vanceboro, Grimesland, Pinetown, Jamesville, Farmville, Rocky Mount, Grifton, Winterville, Belhaven, Ayden, Blounts Creek, Chocowinity, and many from Washington. They all signed in. It was great to see so many outside our community to join in. Two hundred twenty-five dollars was donated for Relay for Life. So it was a success. We broke the Music in the Streets all time record for dancing Electric Slide for sure.
Was this a good idea? You bet it was. Is it possible? Yes, it is. People joined in for the fun, and that alone was what it was all about. I would like to thank all that danced, and several friends that helped out. Like the old saying, “It doesn’t matter if you win or lose. It’s how you play the game.” Will I present you with a challenge again? You bet. So start dancing.
