Gardens feature Honor Path

It’s not quite a yellow-brick road, but the Garden Club of North Carolina will soon create a path of sponsor-engraved bricks through The Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo.
The fundraising project is called the Honor Path. The public is invited to honor loved ones, celebrate an achievement or mark special occasions by way of $100 donations to the Elizabethan Gardens.
Up to three lines of 18 to 20 characters will be laser-etched on each brick that will eventually be part of the path leading visitors through the courtyard and into the heart of The Elizabethan Gardens.
According to the gardens’ website, the legacy bricks being sold will “echo your tribute to future generations that visit.”
In 1951, the Garden Club of North Carolina adopted the gardens, which formally opened in August 1960. Since then, thousands of people have visited the site to see seasonal plants blooming throughout the year. The gardens, adjacent to Waterside Theatre, where “The Lost Colony” is performed, are open year round and offer a variety of educational programing, as well as children’s summer camps.
