Barbara Ward Named Book ManagerPublished 9:24pm Tuesday, August 28, 2012
Barbara Ward of Washington has been promoted to book manager at Dowdy Student Stores at East Carolina University. She has served as acting book manager since February.
As book manager, Ward works closely with faculty to assure that textbooks are ordered and received in a timely manner. She is also in constant contact with publisher representatives to discuss orders and any issues that may occur.
In addition, Ward prepares reports to OneStop for the purpose of updating textbook lists, and assists the book department in updating course and faculty changes. This ensures that students have the latest book listings for their courses.
“I am excited about my new role at Dowdy Student Stores and appreciate the opportunity,” Ward said. “I plan to carry on the legacy that the former book manager taught me and to work with technology to continue to improve our department.”
Ward cited as an example the new textbook rental program started at the store this summer, a lower-cost alternative for students’ textbooks. “We also have a new, enhanced site coming in the spring for faculty to place their book orders,” she said.
Ward has been with Dowdy Student Stores since 1989, when she was hired as a sales clerk. She was named assistant book manager in 1992.
“Ms. Ward earned this promotion by proving herself as a strong leader within the Dowdy Student Stores and East Carolina University,” said Bryan Tuten, director of Dowdy Student Stores. “She is a tireless worker who stays updated with the trends in her areas of expertise, especially the college textbook industry. We could not ask for anyone better.”
Ward is a 1984 graduate of North Pitt High School and attended Beaufort County Community College. She and her husband, Tony, have two daughters, Lauren and Toni-Lynn.
