Cornerstone welcomes students back to school

The Cornerstone Family Worship Center will welcome Beaufort County students back to school with food entertainment and games Saturday afternoon from noon to 4 p.m.
The event includes performances by Originale and the Cornerstone Dance Team, free food from Woogie’s restaurant, and guest speaker Pastor Brian Oliver from Harvest Church. Students will also receive free school supplies.
“So many people have come together to make this a big blast,” said Lisa Reid, one of the organizers of the event. “We want this event to really pump up the kids, parents too. I have four kids. So I need pumping up, as well.”
Reid said she was looking forward to Originale’s performance. The Christian music artist is a member of Cornerstone and has an album due to release Sept. 25.
“I like the positive messages that he speaks about,” Reid said. “My favorite song he does is called ‘God.’ In it he says his church and his wife were big instruments to bringing him to Christ.”
The Back to School blast started out as a free school supply giveaway and has grown into a party with the help of Cornerstone’s youth director, David White.
Reid said events like this are what the church is all about.
“At Cornerstone, one of the greatest commissions is bringing this church outside these walls,” she said. “We want to let them know that Jesus is real and he works through his people.”
