Tyree takes on advertising at WDNPublished 12:27am Sunday, September 2, 2012
Matt Tyree has been named advertising manager of the Washington Daily News and affiliated publications, including Washington the Magazine and The Scuppernong Reminder, a community newspaper in Tyrell County.
Tyree will be active in individual sales, providing marketing solutions for local businesses, in addition to leading the Daily News advertising team.
Raised in Jamestown, N.C., Tyree worked in the foothills town of Shelby as the Shelby Star’s advertising manager. He is a graduate of Gardener-Webb University in Boiling Springs.
“We are happy to welcome Matt Tyree and his wife, Linney, to Washington,” said Daily News publisher Ashley Vansant. “The addition of Tyree strengthens the newspaper’s ability to better serve our customers and community.”
The Tyrees have settled into Country Club Estates with their beagle/Jack Russell terrier mix dog, Allie. A few months ago, the two heard about the homeless puppy and “rescued” her before she was taken to the animal shelter in Shelby.
Tyree said coming from one small town to another has meant very little adjustment to the Tyrees’ way of life.
“What really stands out to me here is both the friendly people and the beautiful scenery of Washington,” Tyree said of his new home.
An avid golfer and music lover, Tyree also looks forward to getting out on the river in the near future.
In the meantime, he’ll be focusing on letting advertisers know why he believes it’s important to have a presence in the Daily News. “Our readership is valuable,” Tyree explained. “I want to help potential advertisers understand our place in, and how important we are to the community.”
