Crewmembers aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Diligence, a 210-foot-long, medium-endurance cutter homeported in Wilmington, conduct a wreath-laying ceremony near Hatteras at the wreckage site of the USS Monitor on Sunday 16 crewmembers lost their lives when the Monitor sank during heavy seas while being towed by the USS Rhode Island on Dec. 31, 1862.
