A few cartons of stolen cigarettes resulted in felony charges for one Belhaven man.
According to a press release from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation into a May 2012 breaking and entering led to the arrest of James Andrew Credle, 34, on Monday.
On May 27, at 10:45 p.m., the residents of a home on U.S. Highway 264 East reported seeing a person attempting to break into a shed on their property, said the release. The homeowner confronted the suspect who then fled on foot. After the fact, according to the report, the victims discovered both of their vehicles had been broken into.
A carton of cigarettes was stolen from each car and more cigarettes and a lighter were stolen from the home’s sunroom, said Maj. Kenneth Watson, spokesman for the sheriff’s office.
Investigator Wesley Waters took investigation results to the Beaufort County Grand Jury, which returned a True Bill of Indictment charging Credle with the crime.
Credle is charged with two counts of felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle, first degree burglary, felony larceny and misdemeanor larceny. He was held in the Beaufort County jail under a $15,000 secured bond.worse
