Tigers' Price going to be just fine; cleared to practice Thursday

WILLIAMSTON -- On one of Raphael Marable's three punt returns for the Southside Seahawks Friday night, the Williamston football team lost more than just six points.
Tigers' tight end Josh Price went down with an injury late in the third quarter, and was taken off the field in an ambulance.
While the incident may have been scary for teammates, opponents and spectators, Williamston head coach Hank Tice says the stretcher and ambulance were primarily used as a precaution.
About three weeks ago, according to Tice, Price went down in practice with a concussion.
"With last night's injury being to the head area, we wanted to make sure we did everything to make sure he was going to be okay," Tice said in a phone interview Saturday afternoon. "It was a head-to-head hit on a very legal block. It wasn't a dirty hit at all."
The block happened on a play where Seahawks' return man Marable reversed field from the right and cut back to the left. Price was popped by a blocker as soon as he turned in pursuit.
Price received a CAT scan and an X-ray. All scans returned negative results for possible long-term injuries, according to Tice.
Tice also says doctors want Price to sit out for four days, and he may return to full-contact action as early at Thursday.
Whether or not Price will participate in Friday's game against Manteo will be a game-time decision by the coaching staff.
"We don't want to take any extra chances," Tice said. "it's way too early to tell if he'll play (Friday) or not, especially with him being a young person, we've got to think about his future."
Tice expects Price will be back in the lineup soon.
"He's one of the toughest kids on the team," Tice said. "He was the only one doing his job (Friday) on punt coverage. He stayed in his lane, and he covered his area. He's an important part of our team."
Price is a 6-foot, 1-inch, 203-pound junior tight end with good hands. Friday, at the start of the third quarter, he caught a 24-yard pass from quarterback Matt Howell for the longest pass hookup of the night for the Tigers. It was the second longest play from scrimmage for Williamston on the night, and the third longest for either team.
