Roach brothers enjoy wins on Saturday

Brothers Brad Roach and Kevin Roach were able to walk off the field Saturday night as winners.

Brad led Catawba to its third straight victory, while Kevin helped East Carolina gain its first win of the season.

BRAD ROACH

Roach, a former standout at Williamston High School, was 22 of 39 for 225 yards in No. 21 Catawba’s 31-13 win over Virginia State.


Roach threw for a pair of touchdowns and one interception. The TD tosses covered 22 and 17 yards, both coming in the first half.

He also had one run for 4 yards.

For the season, Roach is 55 of 83 (66.3 percent) for 701 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions. He also has four rushes for 10 yards.

The Indians (3-0) return to action Sept. 30 at Mars Hill.

KEVIN ROACH

Roach, a former standout at Williamston High School, had two receptions for 25 yards in East Carolina’s 35-20 victory over Memphis in Saturday‘s Conference USA game.


His longest reception was good for 15 yards.

For the season, Roach has seven receptions for 100 yards and a score.

The Pirates (1-2, 1-1) are back in action Saturday at home against No. 5 West Virginia.

TERRANCE COPPER

Copper, a former standout at Washington High School and ECU, had a rather quiet day with New Orleans in the Saints’ 34-27 win over the Green Bay Packers.

Copper did not have a catch or special teams tackle, but did see action for the second straight week. He had one tackle in last week’s win over the Cleveland Browns.

The Saints (2-0) return to action against the Atlanta Falcons (2-0) on Monday Night Football. It will be the first game in the Superdome since Hurricane Katrina.

C.J. WILSON

Wilson, a former standout at Northside High School, had two quarterback hurries for the Pirates in East Carolina’s 35-20 win over Memphis.

Wilson has six tackles in three games.

The Pirates (1-2, 1-1 Conference USA) are back in action Saturday at home against No. 5 West Virginia.

DAMIEN LINSON

Linson, a former standout at Plymouth High School, has four catches for 35 yards in Central Michigan’s 24-21 win over Akron.

He also had two punt returns, but netted just four yards.

For the season, Linson has 14 catches for 160 yards and a touchdown. He also has seven punt returns for 26 yards (3.7 average), along with one rush for 2 yards.

The Chippewas (1-2, 1-0 Mid American Conference) return to action Saturday at Eastern Michigan.

BRYAN HAYWOOD

Haywood, a former standout at Southside High School, had 12 rushes for 92 yards and a score in North Carolina Wesleyan’s 24-21 loss to Emory & Henry College.

Haywood scored on a 34-yard run in the second quarter. The sophomore also had one reception for minus-3 yards.

Haywood has 35 rushes for 208 yards and three scores in two games. He also has seven catches for 66 yards, along with one kickoff return for 13 yards.

The Bishops (1-2) return to action Saturday at home against Methodist College.

CLARENCE BAKER

Baker, a former standout at Southside High School, had one catch for 4 yards in Methodist College’s 31-7 victory over Chowan.

For the season, Baker has three receptions for 40 yards.

The Monarchs (1-1) return to action Saturday at North Carolina Wesleyan.

EMMANUEL MOORE

Moore, a former standout at Southside High School, had one tackle for Chowan in a 31-7 loss to Methodist College.

Moore started at outside linebacker for Chowan. The tackle was his first of the season.

The Braves (0-3) return to action Saturday at home against Tiffin University.
