Jackson snags six receptions for ECSU

Marvin Jackson caught six passes for Elizabeth City State University in Saturday’s 7-3 win over Saint Paul’s.
The former Plymouth High School standout had the six catches that were good for 69 yards. Both were team highs.
For the season, Jackson has a team-best 39 receptions for 566 yards and five touchdowns.
The win gave the Vikings their first eight-win season since 1981 and remain undefeated in the CIAA with a perfect 6-0 record.
The Vikings (8-1) return to action Saturday at home against Virginia Union. It will be the final home game for Jackson, a senior.
Copper records longest catch
Terrance Copper caught a 25-yard pass for the New Orleans Saints in Sunday’s 35-22 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
The reception was the longest of Copper’s three-year career. His previous long was good for 22 yards.
The former Washington High School and East Carolina standout now has three catches for 55 yards this season. Copper has 11 catches for 144 yards and a touchdown in his career.
The Saints (5-2) play next Sunday at Tampa Bay.
Haywood finds the end zone
Bryan Haywood ran for a touchdown in North Carolina Wesleyan’s 46-34 victory over Christopher Newport on Saturday.
The former Southside High School standout ran for a 49-yard touchdown. Haywood finished the day with 87 yards rushing on six carries.
He also had one reception for one yard.
For the season, Haywood has rushed for 393 yards and six touchdowns on 66 carries. He also has 14 receptions for 115 yards and a score.
Wesleyan (4-4, 3-2 USA South Conference) plays at Ferrum College on Saturday.
Moore records five tackles
Emmanuel Moore had a big defensive game for Chowan in Saturday’s 28-0 loss to Webber International.
The former Southside High School standout came up with a season-high five tackles.
Moore now has 14 tackles this season.
Chowan (0-8) plays Saturday at Wesley College.
Whitney gets two tackles
Former Southside High School standout Davelle Whitney made two tackles for North Carolina Wesleyan in Saturday’s 46-34 victory over Christopher Newport.
Whitney now has five tackles on the season.
Wesleyan (4-4, 3-2 USA South Conference) plays at Ferrum College on Saturday.
Rough day for Roach
Brad Roach threw for one touchdown and four interceptions in Catawba’s 24-8 loss to Wingate on Saturday.
The former Williamston High School standout hit 25 of 51 passes for 241 yards. His touchdown pass went for 20 yards.
Roach also had five rushes for 8 yards.
For the season, Roach is 159 of 289 (55 percent) for 1,971 yards. He’s thrown 12 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.
The Indians (4-4, 1-4) return to action Saturday at home against Presbyterian.
Valenti 17th at CVAC meet
Former Washington High School star Gina Valenti finished 17th for Lees-McRae in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference cross country meet.
The freshman finished in 21 minutes and five seconds. She was the fourth Bobcat to cross the finish line.
Valenti’s finish helped the Bobcats finish second out of 12 teams.
The Bobcats will run in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional race Saturday at Wingate University.
