Welcome! magazine returns in June
The second edition of Welcome! magazine will be distributed just in time for the 25th-annual Summer Festival, which occurs June 13-14.
The publication is the result of a partnership between the Washington/Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce and Washington News Publishing, Inc., publisher of the Washington Daily News, the Scuppernong Reminder and The Ocracoker.
“The magazine has been very well received among tourists, new residents and among natives of the Pamlico area,” said Ray McKeithan, editor and publisher of Welcome! and associate publisher of the Daily News.
Welcome! is in its second year of publication. It features useful information about the area for new residents and visitors alike. Since June of 2007, almost 10,000 copies of the 60-page publication have been distributed at many locations throughout the area. Content focuses on the history and amenities offered in the Inner Banks region as well as an in-depth look at education and community profiles.
The glossy magazine features an At a Glance section with information to help newcomers get connected to utilities, cable, gas, phone and other services. Other quick-reference information under this heading includes dock and boating, Division of Motor Vehicles, fishing licenses, accommodations and medical providers.
The Lend a Hand … Take a Hand section of Welcome! provides a listing of community and church groups, service providers and civic clubs in the Pamlico region.
“We encourage all groups and organizations that would like to be included in this useful reference guide to contact us about inclusion, or to update their information from last year,” McKeithan said.
According to Catherine Glover, executive director of the Washington/Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce, “The Welcome! magazine is a valuable resource for people who contact us seeking information about Washington and Beaufort County. We send out over 400 a year with our relocation package. Also, everyone that visits the chamber usually takes one. They are really a big hit. Our members receive an added bonus with the ad discount as an additional way to deliver benefits to members seeking more exposure in the marketplace.”
“I didn’t anticipate how many of these would be requested by wedding planners and family reunion organizers. Welcome! has been used to introduce Washington and the surrounding area to folks before they even arrive. Advertisers have told us this is a big benefit to them,” McKeithan said.
Businesses, churches and organizations interested in advertising in the publication are encouraged to send an e-mail to ray@wdnweb.com for information on advertising deadlines and rates or call the advertising department at (252) 946-2144. Washington/Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce members receive a 10-percent discount on ad space purchased in the magazine.
